50 certificates but no internship: DU topper’s viral post sparks debate
Delhi University topper’s viral LinkedIn post reveals the hard truth—grades alone don’t guarantee internships; her call for skills over marks resonates widely
A Delhi University student’s viral LinkedIn post triggered a conversation on how skills, not grades, often define success beyond the classroom.
Despite topping her class and having over 50 certificates and 10 medals, the Delhi Hansraj College first-year student said she was unable to secure a single internship.

Reality check
In a heartfelt message written in a mix of English and Hindi, Bisma, an English (Hons) student, struck a chord with many students juggling academic expectations and real-world pressure.
“I’m a topper, and I am unable to get an internship,” she wrote. She admitted that it took her a while to accept that “skills matter more than marks” — an admission that hit home for many.

Look beyond grades
Bisma said for years, she was told to focus solely on academics. But in reality, companies are not lining up for students who can recite answers; they want those who can deliver work, she said.
Her advice: “Pick a skill, master it, and watch how fast opportunities find you.”

Internet reacts
Bisma’s post drew a wave of support. Many users shared how focusing on hands-on skills shaped their careers more than academic medals.
One user reflected, “Marks are mostly limited to college. In the real world, industries want practical skills.”
Another user added, “Yes, degrees help in interviews, but in the long run, skills matter most.”
Some even responded with humour. “Your way of asking for an internship is a bit casual,” joked one commenter.
