Amid social media trolls and growing rumours of a divorce, Bollywood power couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh silenced critics with a happy announcement that they are expecting their second child.
The couple took to Instagram on Sunday (April 19) to share the news, posting a heartwarming photo of their daughter, Dua, holding a positive pregnancy test. The couple announced the news of their second child in an understated way, captioning the post with simple evil-eye emojis to ward off negativity.
The news immediately triggered a wave of celebration among the online community, with fans and fellow celebrities flooding the comments with congratulatory messages.
Shutting down rumours
This news clearly comes as an effective rebuttal to her critics who had been relentlessly slamming the actress online. For weeks now, trolls had targeted Deepika for a perceived "silence" regarding the massive box-office success of her husband Ranveer Singh’s latest hit, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, interpreting her lack of public posts as a sign of marital trouble.

By sharing this personal milestone, the couple has effectively shut down the rumours.
'Unsupportive wife'
Deepika had faced intense online scrutiny throughout March and April 2026 on her "silence" over Dhurandhar 2, with a section of social media users even calling the Bollywood star "an unsupportive wife".
What set tongues wagging is Deepika’s appearance at sitarist-singer Rishab Rikhiram Sharma's concert in Mumbai, where she was accompanied by mother-in-law, Anju Bhavnani, and sister-in-law, Ritika Bhavnani.
One user wrote: "Deepika Padukone just gave the 'silent treatment' to a Rs 500 crore budget. While Dhurandhar: The Revenge shatters global records, Deepika skipped the premiere to hit a sitar concert with her in-laws instead. No posts, no praise, just silence. Is she making a statement against the director or just dodging the internet's favourite drama?"
Deepika hits back
In response to the post, the Kalki 2898 AD star in the comments section wrote: "The latter, my friend. PS: I watched it way before any of you did. Now who's the joke on?" The internet also forgot that she had praised the first part of Dhurandhar.
However, while the Internet was getting agitated over Deepika Padukone's 'silence' on Dhurandhar 2 success, the couple went on multiple dates.
Deepika and Ranveer, who had been in a relationship for several years, got married in Italy in 2018. They welcomed Dua in 2024. An outspoken actress, Deepika has been in sticky situations earlier like the time she raised the issue of the need of a 8-hour shift for actors.
On the work front, however, Ranveer is currently basking in the success of Dhurandhar 2, which continues to perform strongly at the box-office even a month after its release. Meanwhile, Deepika’s next is opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Siddarth Anand’s KIng, and she is also set to work with Allu Arjun in Atlee’s Raaka.
