Delhi HC declines urgent plea to reopen CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation portal

Delhi High Court declined urgent relief seeking reopening of the CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation portal, citing potential delays in admissions and result processing

The Delhi High Court on Friday (June 12) declined to issue any urgent directions for reopening the verification portal of the CBSE for re-evaluation of results of aggrieved students of Class XII, stating that they can approach the board individually.

HC declines urgent relief

“Let individual students approach. They will take care,” stated a vacation bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna and Justice Madhu Jain. The bench further stated that if such directions are issued, the final results of the students will be delayed, reported Live Law.

The development took place during the hearing of a plea filed by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) claiming that “large-scale irregularities and deficiencies” occurred under the CBSE’s Screen Marking (OSM) system.

The bench made the remarks after Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta argued that any such order would adversely affect the undergraduate admissions of 17.8 lakh students who appeared in the examinations, as their results may get delayed. He further stated that 98.66 lakh answer sheets were received.

“The first step was that CBSE opened the window for obtaining scanned copies of answer sheets from 19 May to 25 May. More than 4 lakh applied, and a total of 11 lakh plus answer sheets were demanded. All were given by CBSE,” stated Mehta.

“The portal was opened from June 2 to June 6, and it was extended for a day- June 7. 1.67 lakh students applied for reevaluation. 3.8 lakh answer sheets were given to CBSE for reevaluation. This system has operated. Those who wanted to apply applied, got answer sheets. And those who were not satisfied after looking at the answer sheets they requested evaluation and the process is underway,” he added.

Bench cites wider impact

But the counsel of the NSUI argued that the re-evaluation portal be reopened at least for week as many students have not been able to apply so far.

However, the bench was not convinced. “For you it is one week. But the whole process gets delayed by a month. You are saying let me take the step. Then of course 10 steps further are to be taken. It is not the question of step 1 but three other steps.… We are not giving any further directions. We will post this before the roster bench,” stated the bench.
