India’s GDP growth hits 7.8 per cent in Q1 FY27, says Govt

Real GDP, or GDP at constant prices, in the first quarter of FY27 is estimated at Rs 81.36 lakh crore, against Rs 75.46 lakh crore in the corresponding quarter of 2025-26


India’s real gross domestic product (GDP) grew 7.8 per cent in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) stated in a release on Monday (August 31).

GDP grows 7.8 per cent

Real Gross Domestic Product, or GDP at constant prices, in the first quarter of FY27 is estimated at Rs 81.36 lakh crore, against Rs 75.46 lakh crore in the corresponding quarter of 2025-26, showing a growth rate of 7.8 per cent, stated the ministry.

"Indian economy has sustained growth momentum despite global headwinds," the ministry said.

“Real GDP or GDP at Constant Prices in Q1 of FY 2026-27 is estimated at ₹81.36 lakh crore, against ₹75.46 lakh crore in Q1 of FY 2025-26, showing a growth rate of 7.8%. Nominal GDP or GDP at Current Prices in Q1 of FY 2026-27 is estimated at ₹88.27 lakh crore, against ₹80.00 lakh crore in Q1 of FY 2025-26, showing a growth rate of 10.3%,” it added.

Nominal GDP rises 10.3 per cent

Nominal GDP, or GDP at current prices, in the April-June quarter of the current fiscal year is estimated at Rs 88.27 lakh crore, against Rs 80 lakh crore in the first quarter of 2025-26, showing a growth rate of 10.3 per cent.

Real gross value added (GVA) increased 8.2 per cent to Rs 73.82 lakh crore from Rs 68.21 lakh crore a year earlier. Nominal GVA grew 11.5 per cent to Rs 80.53 lakh crore, compared with Rs 72.24 lakh crore in Q1 FY26.

New GDP series used

The latest estimates are part of the new GDP series introduced with 2022-23 as the base year. The ministry released the “New Series of Annual and Quarterly GDP estimates with base year 2022-23” on February 27, 2026. Provisional GDP estimates for FY26 were released on June 5.

The ministry has now updated quarterly GDP estimates from Q1 FY23 to Q4 FY26. The revisions incorporate the “New series of Output PPI, Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base year 2022-23 and updated administrative data from different sources.”
