Maharashtra govt inks MoUs worth ₹30,379 crore at World Economic Forum
The Maharashtra government, which has sent a delegation of ministers to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF), 2022 in Switzerland’s Davos, inked 23 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for investments worth $4 billion (₹30,379 crore) across a range of sectors including pharmaceuticals, medical services, data centres, information technology, food processing, steel and paper and pulp.
Announcing the development on Twitter on Tuesday, state Industries Minister Subhash Desai said the investment would create 66,000 jobs in the state.
The MoUs were signed as part of the 10th edition of the Magnetic Maharashtra 2.0 programme.
The state delegation to Davos includes Desai, Energy Minister Nitin Raut and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray.
A whopping 55 per cent of the proposed investment will be Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in the fields of pharmaceuticals, medical device, IT, data centres, food processing, textile and steel, by countries like the US, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia.
This includes data centres by Microsoft in Pune at an investment of ₹3,200 crore. While the Sinarmas Pulp and Paper Private Limited from Indonesia has committed to invest ₹10,500 crore in Raigad, India-based Havmor Ice Creams will set up an ice cream manufacturing unit in Pune.
Key textile companies like Indorama Corporation and Indocount Industries Limited will also set up textile hubs in Nagpur and Kolhapur respectively.
The investors include US-based private space company, Voyager Space Holding, which wants to include “space” in the college syllabus.

For that, they are keen to invest in Maharashtra. We are looking forward to working together,” Desai had tweeted on Monday.
Besides, ReNew Power has promised to invest ₹50,000 crore for renewable power generation in the state with a generating capacity of 10,000-12,000 Megawatts. A deal has also been signed with education giant Byju’s to introduce digital education in municipal schools of Mumbai and remote parts of the state.
The state government, under the Magnetic Maharashtra initiative, has so far inked 121 MoUs which promise to attract investment of ₹2.2 lakh crore and create 4 lakh jobs.
