Kangana Ranaut meets Maharashtra governor days after office demolition

Actor Kangana Ranaut met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Sunday evening to inform him about the “injustice” she has suffered, days after her Mumbai office was demolished amid her ongoing battle with the Shiv Sena.

Stating that she had met the governor as a citizen, she said, “I told him about the injustice meted out to me and that what happened was improper,” PTI reported. “It was indecent behaviour,” she said while interacting with mediapersons after the meeting at the Raj Bhavan. She was accompanied by her sister Rangoli Chandel.

Kangana said she has “nothing to do with politics.” Her mother Asha Ranaut said a couple of days ago that the whole family had been a Congress loyalist but will, henceforth, support the BJP.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the local body in Mumbai, demolished “illegal” constructions at Ranaut’s office on September 9 (Wednesday) in what she termed was the Sena’s way of taking revenge on her for talking against the party.

Koshyari had summoned chief minister and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s adviser Ajoy Mehta on Friday to express his displeasure at the BMC action.

The BMC carried out the demolition a couple of days after Ranaut said Mumbai had become like Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and that the Maharashtra government was behaving like Taliban. Her comments were in response to Sena leaders saying she had no right to come to the city after she criticised the Mumbai police for their handling of the Sushant Singh Rajput case and saying she felt unsafe in Mumbai.

The Bombay High Court stayed the BMC’s action in the middle of the local body’s demolition drive. By the time the court’s order came, most parts of Ranaut’s office at Pali Hills in Mumbai had already been demolished.

The court asked BMC why it was in a hurry as it had given the actor only 24 hours to respond to its notice on the alleged illegal constructions.

Ranaut took to social media to lash out at Uddhav Thackeray for demolishing “my home”. “Uddhav Thackeray, do you think you have taken revenge on me by demolishing my home? Today, my home has been demolished, tomorrow, your arrogance will break,” she said in a video post.

Ranaut has claimed that she had all the necessary approvals for the constructions. According to Union minister and Dalit leader from Maharashtra Ramdas Athawale, who met her, she felt “insulted” by the BMC’s action and was planning to seek compensation for the damage.
