Four new COVID-care facilities with 3,500 beds set up in Mumbai
As the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra increased to 2,17,121, with 5,134 new infections on Tuesday (July 07), Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has inaugurated four new field hospitals, having the collective capacity of 3,520 beds in Mulund, Dahisar, Mahalaxmi Racecourse and BKC in the capital Mumbai.
While the dedicated COVID-19 health centre in Mulund has a capacity of 1,700 beds, the centre in Dahisar (East), set up with the help of the Mumbai Metro, has 900 beds. The facility at Mahalaxmi Racecourse has a capacity of 700 beds and the one at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) has 112 ICU beds.

As of July 6, Mumbai had 85,326 COVID-19 cases with 4,935 fatalities. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai’s recovery rate stood at 67 per cent on Tuesday, while the doubling rate of cases is 44 days. The overall growth rate of cases in the city is 1.60 per cent, the civic body said.
It also announced that people could test themselves for the coronavirus infection at designated private laboratories in Mumbai without a doctors prescription. The civic body added that those placed in institutional quarantine will be discharged only when they test negative for the virus.
