TN: Yoga, naturopathy courses' admissions soon after Class XII results, says Health Minister Subramanian

The Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian said on Tuesday (June 13) that the admission to yoga and naturopathy courses would begin soon after the Class XII results are announced since admission to these courses are not dependent on the NEET score.

The Tamil Nadu government has made this decision after listening to the woes of administrators of colleges in the state. They told the minister that several seats for these courses were wasted because the admissions process which should be completed by August were being delayed till February the next year.

The schedules for yoga and naturopathy counselling are being delayed after NEET was made compulsory for undergraduate courses in siddha, unani, homeopathy, and ayurveda. The counselling for the Indian medicine and homeopathy courses, in turn, begins only after three rounds of counselling for the MBBS/BDS courses in the state. It’s a domino effect.

The minister said that they did not have to wait so long for admission to the yoga and naturopathy courses as the students did not have to clear NEET for these courses.

He also said that the government would create awareness about these courses, and asked the private colleges to advertise the courses as alternate career options for students.
