Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has claimed that the state has achieved the highest COVID recovery rate in the country at 85.45 percent.

India’s patient recovery as on Saturday (August 29) crossed 26 lakh, pushing the national recovery rate to 76.47 percent.

A total of 3,49,682 people have been cured in Tamil Nadu and the mortality rate (death rate) was a “very low” 1.7 percent, Palaniswami said during a video-conference meeting with district collectors on Saturday.

As on Saturday (August 29), Tamil Nadu’s overall tally of coronavirus cases stood at 4,15,590 with 7,137 related deaths. Currently, there are 58,840 beds in Covid hospitals, 77,223 beds in COVID-19 special centres, and 26,801 beds with oxygen facilities. In addition, there are 4,782 beds in Intensive Care Units and 5,718 ventilators have been kept ready, according to the state health ministry bulletin. The state has 149 testing facilities, including 83 private units.

On Saturday, active patient count stood at 52,726 and 6,326 patients tested positive on the day while a total of 6,045 patients were discharged. The death count for today is 87.

Palaniswami attributed the high recovery rate to a herbal concoction called “Kabasura Kudineer”, which is being distributed to improve immunity.

The Chief Minister, however, cautioned the district collectors against any kind of complacency and told them to ensure that coronavirus guidelines are strictly followed.

Palaniswami said his government has so far spent Rs 7,162 crore towards controlling the pandemic, treatment and relief measures. An additional Rs 200 crore has been kept aside to mitigate hardship of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Rs 7,518 crore under the Central governments loan scheme for industrial units.
