There will be no provision for candidates applying for certain posts in the postal department to take Paper I in local language as the department is setting the paper in English and Hindi only.

However, candidates can still write the Paper II in English, Hindi or their preferred local language, for the jobs of postman, mail guard, postal assistant, etc.

Paper I consists of one mark multiple choice questions (MCQs). Paper II includes translations and subjective type questions along with MCQs.

Earlier, the department allowed candidates to take the Paper I test in a local language if Hindi or English was not the preferred or second language.

Along with the language, both the syllabus and the pattern of examination for Paper I and Paper II exams have been revised, according to an order passed on Thursday (July 11).

The one-hour long exam is conducted in one sitting and the candidate needs to clear both the parts to be considered for the postal jobs.

“Only candidates who qualify in each paper shall be considered for the final selection and their merits shall be drawn in order of marks secured in Paper I,” the order read.
