Pollachi case: CB-CID summons TN Cong working president Mayura Jayakumar
As part of its probe into the sexual abuse case in Pollachi, the Crime Branch- Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) on March 21 summoned the Congress working president Mayura Jayakumar to appear before it on or before March 25.
The move was necessitated after the team led by Inspector General of Police (CB-CID) C Sridhar started their investigation in the second week of March and took the prime accused N Thirunavukkarasu under custody. During the course of interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that he was not in Pollachi on the day the crime is alleged to have committed. “He said that he was in the Congress party office in Coimbatore to attend a party function there. The meeting was allegedly organised by the congress working president Mayura Jayakumar,” sources privy to the investigation said.
Taking into account his statement, CB-CID has summoned Mayura Jayakumar to appear before the CB-CID police on or before March 25. “Thirunavukkarasu said that he honoured Mayura Jayakumar with a shawl and that the gesture was both photographed and video graphed. So, we are planning to check the photos and videos of the function apart from checking the CCTV footages in the party office,” the CB-CID police said.
CB-CID has also summoned the tri-weekly magazine Nakkheeran’s editor, R Gopal to appear before it and produce the video evidence he reportedly has in connection with the sensational case.
In her complaint, the 19-year-old girl had alleged that she was sexually harassed by a gang of four including Thirunavukkarsu on February 12.
