After 11 months in jail, assistant professor Nirmala Devi has been granted bail by the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on March 12.

Nirmala Devi was arrested in April 2018 on charges of luring girl students for sexual favours to higher officials of the Madurai Kamaraj University. She was arrested after an audio tape where she discusses this went viral.

The case was investigated by CB-CID. Nirmala Devi was repeatedly denied bail 10 times. Earlier, the court had asked the state government why she cannot be granted bail, to which the prosecution maintained that there were chances of her tampering evidence.
