ISIS module case: NIA raids residences of suspects in TN, seizes devices

As a part of its investigation in the ISIS module case, the National Investigation Agency on Saturday raided the residences of two suspects in Thanjavur and Tiruchirappalli and seized various electronic devises and documents.

The two men are suspected to be associates of the two accused — Mohammed Azarudheen and Shiek Hidayathulla — who were arrested in Coimbatore in June.

During the raids on Saturday, the sleuths seized two laptops, six mobile phones, eleven SIM cards, a pen drive, a hard disc, a memory card, five CDs/ DVDs, an axe, besides 17 documents.

The seized items including the digital devices will be submitted to the NIA Special Court, Ernakulam, and will be subjected to forensic examination, the probe agency said.

The suspects were being questioned to ascertain their association with the two accused persons in this case and if they were involved in any unlawful activity aimed at furthering the objectives of ISIS / Daish, NIA said.

On May 30 this year, NIA registered a case against six accused of Coimbatore, based on information that they and their associates propagated ISIS ideology on social media. They allegedly intended to recruit vulnerable youth into the ISIS and carry out terrorist attacks in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, NIA said.

In June, the NIA sleuths had quizzed Police Fakrudeen, Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik who are lodged in the Puzhal Central Jail here in connection with their probe in the ISIS
module case. The trio has been accused of murdering leaders of a Hindu outfit and the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
