Amid worrying news about the COVID-19 pandemic and the spike in infections across the globe, the need to maintain hygiene and be vigilant through use of masks and sanitisers has become more important than ever.

A textile showroom in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai has found an innovative way to encourage people to use sanitisers, through means of a saree-clad robotic mannequin which carries a sanitiser in hand, allowing visitors to use it.

Videos of the mannequin draped in a saree have gone viral on social media. The 44-second clip shared across all platforms shows the robot offering the hand sanitiser to customers.

“Technology put to right use at one of the textile showrooms in TN. An automated mannequin draped in saree detects customers around and walks to them to provide sanitisers. Post Corona is sure to see intensified technological evolutions,” IFS Sudha Ramen said while sharing the video.

The idea received a lot of praise from netizens.
