Former AIADMK member and spokesperson K C Palaniswamy was arrested in the early hours of Saturday (January 25) from his residence at RS Puram, Coimbatore, for allegedly misusing the party symbol, police said.

Based on a complaint filed by P Kandavel, president of Muthugoundenpudur village panchayat in Sulur panchayat union, Palanisamy was arrested for participating in events claiming to be a member of the AIADMK even after being expelled from the party, operating a website in the party’s name and misusing the party symbol of ‘Two Leaves.’

The former MP was expelled from the AIADMK in 2018 after he urged the party to back a no-confidence motion against the Modi government at the Centre if it did not take a favourable stand on the Cauvery issue.

According to reports, Palanisamy was booked under 10 Sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 419 (Cheating by personation), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) and 482 (Punishment for using a false property mark) along with provisions of Information Technology Act.
