Election Commission may hold re-poll in 46 TN polling stations

Update: 2019-05-08 14:59 GMT

In the backdrop of the controversy surrounding the shifting of 50 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from Coimbatore to Theni, the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satybrata Sahoo, on Wednesday, said that some voting machines had issues in 46 constituencies spread over 13 districts including Theni and Erode.

Sahoo further said that the election commission would take a call on conducting re-polling in those constituencies after taking the views of all the political parties in the state. Answering a specific query in connection with the transfer of the EVMs, he said that shortage of EVMs in Erode and Theni is what prompted the authorities to move them.

It is to be noted that bypolls to 18 Assembly constituencies were held on April 18 in conjunction with the Lok Sabha polls. Four more bypolls to the Assembly are scheduled for May 19. Counting for both the Lok Sabha and the Assembly seats will be held on May 23.
