COVID-19: Tamil Nadu sees 161 new cases, Chennai accounts for 138

The 161 people who tested positive for the infection on Thursday included 97 males and 64 females, the bulletin said. Of the total cases reported so far, 1,553 were males and 770 females. No deaths due to the deadly virus was reported on Thursday, the government said.
A two-month-old girl baby and an 81-year-old man, both from Chennai, were among those who tested positive on Thursday.
Till April 30, according to the bulletin, 1,258 COVID-19 positive patients have been discharged following treatment in the state. “Hence, 1,035 active cases are under treatment as on today,” it said. Currently, the bulletin said 31,375 persons are under home quarantine while 40 are at government quarantine facilities.

It said 1,19,748 samples have been taken and sent for testing till now, of which 9,787 samples were tested on Thursday. Currently, COVID-19 testing is being done in 34 government and 11 private labs across the state. The government has appointed special IAS and IPS officers each zones in order to contain the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, the state government on Thursday announced the launch of an exclusive website – www.nonresidenttamil.org – for registration of non-resident Tamils in the COVID-19 affected countries, who are keen on returning home.
