Beautiful solution: Rahman tweets after Centre tweaks education draft

Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman referred to the Centre’s decision as a ‘beautiful solution’ to revise the draft National Education Policy’s recommendation to make Hindi a compulsory language as part of its three-language formula.

“Beautiful solution. Hindi is not compulsory in Tamil Nadu. The draft has been revised (sic),” Rahman tweeted in Tamil on June 3 (Monday).

Facing severe public backlash, especially in Tamil Nadu, over the draft policy’s recommendation to make Hindi a compulsory language in schools, besides English, even in non-Hindi speaking states, the Centre on Monday issued a revised draft of the policy. In the revised draft, the language clause was dropped.

The Centre’s move follows widespread protests by politicians from the southern states, including DMK president Stalin and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor.
