2 masked men drill hole to loot Lalithaa Jewellery in Trichy

Two robbers wearing animal masks broke into a Lalithaa jewellery shop in Tamil Nadu’s Trichy district and managed to rob jewellery worth crores on Wednesday (October 2).

Two men have been suspected to have drilled a hole to enter the shop using hammer and small tools to avoid loud noise. Reports claims that the jewellery shop borders an empty plot of land through which the robbers made a hole on the shop’s wall and sneaked in.

According to reports, though the jewellery shop had around 6-7 security guards on duty, it is noted that on the day of the incident, no security guard heard any drilling noise.

The burglars came prepared with hand gloves and also sprinkled chilli powder in the shop so that the sniffer dogs will not be able to identify them during the investigation.

Speaking to The Federal, City Commissioner of Police Amalraj, said around ₹13 crore worth jewellery has been looted and that they have some suspects which can be disclosed only after a proper investigation. The stolen jewellery weighed 100kg, according to reports.

After the incident, chairman of Lalithaa jewellery, Kiran Kumar who visited the shop said, “the police weighed the remaining stock in the shop to estimate the stolen goods. “Small quantity of chains, haram, necklace, diamond and platinum have been stolen. Fortunately, the police is being very efficient”, he added.

The district police has formed seven special teams to apprehend the robbers. As of now, the police had sought guest details from the hotels and lodges close to the shop located near the Chathiram bus stand in Trichy.

In a similar incident in the district, Punjab National Bank at Samayapuram, was looted by masked robbers entering the bank by drilling a hole using similar tools. The police suspect that the accused should be the same in both the instances.
