Karnataka's 'Mask Day' spreads awareness on COVID control practices

The Karnataka government on Thursday, observed “Mask Day” to spread awareness about the use of masks, sanitisers, washing hands with soap, and maintaining social distancing among other things aimed at controlling the spread of COVID-19.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that the state has organised a walk from Vidhana Soudha to Cubbon Park to create awareness about the importance of wearing a mask as a preventive measure against Covid-19.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had said that film actors and sports personalities will also take part in the event and it will be celebrated in all taluks as well.

“We are celebrating ‘Mask Day’ at all district headquarters today. We have organised a walk from Vidhana Soudha (to Cubbon Park) to create awareness about the importance of wearing a mask as a preventive measure against Covid-19,” Yediyurappa told media persons here.

People participating in the march have been asked to compulsorily wear masks and maintain social distancing.

”We will take strict action against those who are not maintaining social distancing. A fine of Rs 200 will be imposed on those for not wearing a mask in public places,” he had said.

The awareness day comes in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic that has so far caused 7,530 cases in Karnataka, of which 94 people have succumbed to the infection, as per the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
