A group of minor boys from Hyderabad allegedly raped a teenaged girl inside a car in a posh locality in Hyderabad on Saturday evening (May 28).

Police said the boys, in class 11 and 12, belong to “politically connected” families and one of them is said to be the son of an MLA.

As per the police complaint registered by the girl’s father, the 17-year-old girl had gone to a pub with a friend on Saturday evening around 5.30 pm. She was accompanied by a friend who left early. The survivor befriended a boy, who promised to drop her home. The boy was accompanied by four of his friends.

They parked the Mercedes car at Jubilee Hills, a tony area of Hyderabad, and took turns to rape the girl.

Police said the MLA’s son, who was one of the boys, ran away before the assault.

The girl initially hesitated in telling about the incident to her parents. It was only after her father noticed a mark on her neck that the girl revealed some of the details.

The police initially registered a complaint of ‘outraging modesty’. It was only after she gave a statement to the women police officials that a case of rape was recorded.

The survivor didn’t know the boys. She only gave one name to the police, who are looking at CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the others.
