Naidu alleges phone tapping by Jagan govt, urges PM for probe

Telugu Desam Party chief and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday (August 17) wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to order a high-level probe into the alleged phone tapping of Opposition leaders by the state government.

In a letter to Modi, Naidu alleged that the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government has been tapping phones of opposition leaders, advocates, journalists and social activists in the state by using sophisticated technology and illegal software.

“This is in violation of the Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India that protect the fundamental rights of citizens. The ruling YSRCP is using illegal tactics to safeguard its power by intimidating and blackmailing the opponents and dissenting voices. These illegal activities are posing a serious threat to the right to privacy in the State,” Naidu said.

In his letter he also accused the YSRCP of targeting the judiciary.

“If these nefarious activities were not put to an end, they would emerge as a bigger threat to national security and sovereignty of the country as a whole,” he was quoted as saying in the letter.

In a similar complaint K Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, the rebel MP of YSRCP on Sunday alleged that his two mobile phones were being tapped for the past two months by state intelligence authorities.

Raju had also complained of getting threat calls from various international numbers showing codes of Denmark, Switzerland, Romania, South Korea and Spain.
