A Samajwadi Party leader and his son were shot dead in broad daylight by two men in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district on Tuesday (May 19). The incident, which was recorded on camera, took place after an argument over a road that was being built under the MGNREGA scheme, said reports.

Chotelal Diwakar, who had contested the 2017 assembly polls on an SP ticket, and his son Sunil had gone for the inspection of the road when the duo got involved in an argument with two other men who were carrying rifles, reported NDTV.

The report identified one of the assailants as Savinder, a local strongman. They were reportedly angry since the under-construction road was infringing on their fields, and the argument over this allegedly led to the murder.
