Kanpur ambush: Prime accused Vikas Dubey's house demolished
A day after eight policemen were shot dead at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, a house belonging to the prime accused Vikas Dubey was demolished on Saturday (July 04). The policemen had gone to Bikru village to arrest Dubey, who has around 60 criminal cases, including murder, kidnapping, extortion and rioting, pending against him.

In the wee hours of Friday (July 03), a deputy superintendent of police three sub-inspectors and four constables were killed in an ambush in Bikru village in Kanpur district, NDTV reported. “The intention was to arrest him… The firing by criminals was from three sides and it was totally planned,” said Dinesh Kumar, superintendent of police, Kanpur.
For over 36 hours after the incident, Dubey has been absconding and the police have formed over 25 teams to capture the history-sheeter. The department has also set up a surveillance team that had been scanning more than 500 mobile phones to track him, the report added.
He should surrender himself before police. If he continues to remain at large, police may kill him in encounter. Meanwhile, Dubey’s mother Sarla Devi has said, “Police should kill him (Dubey) even if they had managed to catch him, as he had done something extremely wrong.” She added that Dubey should surrender before the police. If he continues to remain at large, police may kill him in an encounter, Devi said.
According to the police, after snatching weapons from the police personnel, the criminals had opened fire at the team from the rooftops. The weapons included an AK-47 rifle, an INSAS rifle, a Glock pistol and two .9mm pistols, Hindustan Times quoted a police spokesperson as saying.
