COVID-19: Wife of infected techie tests positive after fleeing to Agra

A 25-year-old woman, who had escaped quarantine in Bengaluru after her husband tested positive for the novel coronavirus, tested positive for the infection on Friday, reports said. The woman and her husband, a 26-year-old Google employee, had recently arrived from their honeymoon in Italy.

A 25-year-old woman, who had escaped quarantine in Bengaluru after her husband tested positive for the novel coronavirus, tested positive for the infection on Friday (March 13), reports said. She had taken a flight to Delhi, and travelled to her parent’s house in Agra.

The woman and her husband, a 26-year-old Bengaluru-based Google employee, had recently arrived from their honeymoon in Italy, one of the worst affected countries in Europe. They had visited France and Greece as well.

Upon their arrival, the couple was put under isolation after the husband showed symptoms of coronavirus. According to health officials, the woman escaped from quarantine in Bengaluru, and fled to Agra to be with her parents.

Soon after her disappearance was reported, a search was initiated and the ministry of railways eventually notified Agra authorities of her exact location. She was subsequently admitted in an isolation ward at the Agra’s Sarojini Naidu Medical College.

Her parents and sister have been asked to undergo home quarantine for 14 days, and her other family members have been kept under strict watch. Reports said her travel details are being verified keeping in mind the risk she had exposed her co-travellers to.

According to reports, health officials said the woman was staying with eight other family members in Agra, and that they initially refused to cooperate when officials visited their house. Eventually, the district magistrate had to intervene and police were called to move them to an isolation ward.
