Bus carrying 45 people overturns on Agra-Lucknow Expressway; 16 critically injured

A bus carrying 45 passengers travelling from Delhi to Bihar's Madhubani overturned on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in the early hours of Thursday (August 20), resulting in at least 30 people being injured.

A bus carrying 45 passengers travelling from Delhi to Bihar’s Madhubani overturned on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in the early hours of Thursday (August 20), resulting in at least 30 people being injured.

According to India Today, while 16 of those 30 are gravely injured and undergoing treatment at the PGI Saifai hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah, the remaining 14 have been discharged from the hospital after being administered first aid.

No casulalties have been reported so far.

Investigation by police is underway to assess the reason behind the accident.

Passengers rescued from bus stuck in floodwaters in Mathura

Meanwhile, in another incident, the fire brigade has rescued passengers from a bus that got stuck on an inundated road amid heavy rain Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, police said on Wednesday (August 19).

When the team reached the spot near the bus stand late on Tuesday (August 18) evening, the situation was horrible as a handful of passengers were crying for help inside the bus amid heavy rain, strong water current and no power supply, Mathura Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma said.

By the time rescue operations commenced, the flood water levels were rising. All the passengers of the bus were safely taken out using ropes and other equipments, he said.

A rickshaw puller was also rescued from the spot, the official said.
