MiG-29 crashes in Punjab during training session, pilot ejects safely

A MiG-29 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force on Friday (May 8) crashed in Chuharpur village in Nawanshahr after it developed a technical snag during a training mission, officials said.

A MiG-29 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force on Friday (May 8) crashed in Chuharpur village in Nawanshahr after it developed a technical snag during a training mission, officials said.

Even as the fighter jet crashed into the fields at around 10:30 am, Nawanshahr Deputy Commissioner Vinay Bublani said that the pilot ejected safely and has been rescued.

An IAF spokesperson said the MiG-29 aircraft was on a training mission from an Air Force base near Jalandhar.

“The aircraft had developed a technical snag and the pilot ejected safely as he was unable to control the aircraft. The pilot has been rescued by a helicopter. A court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of accident,” he said.
