BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan was sworn in as the nineteenth Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Monday (March 23).
Governor Lalji Tandon administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chouhan during the swearing-in ceremony at the Raj Bhawan in Bhopal. Earlier, Chouhan was elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party in Madhya Pradesh.
He is set to serve his fourth term as the Chief Minister, after Congress’ Kamal Nath resigned on March 20. Kamal Nath government collapsed after a 10-day political crisis due to the resignation of 22 MLAs on March 10.

The MLAs were the supporters of senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, who quit the party and joined the BJP on March 11. The same day, the BJP nominated Scindia to the Rajya Sabha. The 22 MLAs too joined the saffron party on March 21 in the presence of its national president Jagat Prakash Nadda.
After the resignation of the MLAs, Congress’ strength has come down to 92. On the other hand, BJP has 106 legislators.
Chouhan had already served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for three consecutive terms from November 2005 to December 2018.
