Kamal Nath to decide on floor test tomorrow; Cong MLAs back in Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who is set to take a call on the proposed floor test tomorrow as the Governor’s letter was received at midnight, said “All is Well” following a state cabinet meeting on Sunday (March 15) morning.

Governor Lalji Tandon on Saturday (March 14) night, in a letter, asked Speaker Narmada Prasad Prajapati to seek a trust vote in the Assembly soon after his (governor’s) address on Monday (March 16).

“It is not essential that the floor test takes place tomorrow abhi toh corona chal raha hai (the coronavirus is on now),” cabinet minister and independent MLA Pradeep Jaiswal said, adding, “We have the numbers. The Chief Minister is confident. Wait and watch.”

Jyotiraditya Scindia and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with other BJP pleaders met Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to understand the legal obligations attached to the disqualification of the 22 MLAs who resigned last week.

Meanwhile, Congress MLAs, who were moved to a resort in Jaipur, returned to Bhopal on Sunday.

“After landing at Bhopal airport, we are being taken to a hotel in buses. Instead of returning home, we will stay in Bhopal as the budget session of the assembly will start on Monday,” a Congress MLA told PTI.

The governor’s direction came after Prajapati accepted the resignations of six rebel ministers, bringing down the majority mark in the 228-member Assembly to 113.
