With Madhya Pradesh governor Lalji Tandon directing Chief Minister Kamal Nath to seek a trust vote, the Congress MLAs, who were staying in two resorts, are returning to Bhopal.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has convened a cabinet meeting on Sunday (March 15), following Governor Lalji Tandon’s direction to Speaker Narmada Prasad Prajapati to conduct a trust vote in the Assembly on Monday (March 16).
A simultaneous meeting was also held at the residence of Union minister and BJP leader Narendra Singh Tomar to discuss strategies for Monday. According to ANI, the meeting was attended by former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan and newly-inducted BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The cabinet is likely to discuss the governor’s letter sent on Saturday night, in which he asked the speaker to seek a trust vote in the Assembly soon after his (governor’s) address on March 16, reports said.
The governor’s direction came after Prajapati accepted the resignations of six rebel ministers, bringing down the majority mark in the 228-member Assembly to 113.
Meanwhile, Congress MLAs who were put up in resorts in Jaipur, were shifted to a hotel in Bhopal on Sunday, where they will stay till the floor test. The MLAs who were sent to Jaipur on (March 11) when the political crisis intensified in the state following Jyotiraditya Scindia’s exit from the party, were staying in two luxury resorts on the Jaipur-Delhi highway.
“We will prove majority in the floor test. The Kamal Nath government will complete a five-year term,” one of the Congress MLAs told reporters at the airport.
