Two police constables have been suspended on the basis of a viral video in which both the cops were seen thrashing a man.

In the video, Head Constable Krishna Dongre can be seen repeatedly thrashing Waman Sareaam, a mason, with a plastic cane and kicking him in the head while constable Ashish Dhunde helps him.

The video was shot on May 16 but it went viral on Saturday reported Indian Express.

Since the video started doing rounds on social media, both the police personnel were suspended and an inquiry has been initiated.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Chhindwara, Vivek Agarwal said, “Based on a viral video that surfaced on Saturday and which is 10-12 days old, two police constables have been suspended and attached to the police lines.”

“In the video, both cops were seen thrashing a man. A departmental inquiry has also been marked,” said the SP.

The mason seen in the video was dropped home and the police have not registered any case against him for creating a nuisance at a public place in an inebriated state, said Sub-inspector Ritesh Tayde, in-charge of the Piplyanaraynwar Chowki under Lodhikheda Police Station.

Tayde also said the mason’s medical examination showed no injury marks and he did not even remember the incident. He claimed the mason was back two hours later in the same locality after the assault.

When the police took him for medical examination, Tayde said, the mason thought he had violated lockdown restrictions.
