Militant killed in encounter in J&K's Kulgam, Army personnel injured

Security forces gunned down a militant in an encounter in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday (July 4), said police. An Army personnel was injured in the exchange of bullets, it added.

The face-off ensued during a cordon and search operation in the Arrah area of Kulgam in south Kashmir following specific information about the presence of militants there, said a police officer. He said the militants opened fire on the forces during the search operation.

The security forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which a militant was killed, said the official. An Army personnel was injured during the exchange of fire and he has been rushed to a hospital, he added. The official said the operation is on and further details are awaited.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said a joint of cops and Army busted a terrorist hideout on Saturday, during an operation in Dodassan Bala village of Rajouri’s Thanamandi sub-division, and recovered arms and ammunition.
