L-G to hold meeting to discuss hospital beds issue in Delhi

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal is set to hold a meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Committee on Tuesday (June 16) to discuss the issues related to lack of hospital beds and requirement of oxygen support in the national capital, Hindustan Times reported.

The announcement comes two days after Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and State Health Minister Satyendar Jain met Baijal at his residence to access the COVID-19 situation and check whether there was community spread in Delhi.

According to the report, the Lt Governor has been planning on the setting up of community centres in residential areas with the support of Resident Welfare Associations. These centres will have beds with oxygen support so that COVID-19 patients could access them if there was a fall in oxygen levels.

The Raj Niwas has also urged spiritual organisations in the national capital to support the initiative by offering their premises to treat COVID-19 patients as an expert panel had estimated that the national capital would require 15,000 beds by the end of June.

As per the committee’s advice, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that all beds in government-run and private hospitals would be reserved only for residents of the national capital.

Delhi has reported 32,810 confirmed cases of COVID-19, so far. While 12,245 people have been either cured or discharged from hospitals, there are 19,581 active cases in Delhi. It has also witnessed 984 deaths.
