Gambhir delivers 1,000 PPE kits, asks Kejriwal to honour his pledge

Update: 2020-04-10 15:17 GMT

Four days after BJP MP Gautam Gambhir told Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Twitter that he had procured 1,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and was ready to deliver them, the former cricketer provided the kits to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital in the city on Friday (April 10).

The Twitter spat began after Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on April 4 sought funds from the Centre to fight the COVID-19 outbreak in Delhi. The next day, Gambhir announced that he would contribute ₹50 lakh, in addition to the same amount he had pledged earlier, from MPLADS funds to the buying of PPEs.

Thanking Gambhir for the offer, Kejriwal said the government had no problem with funds, but with the availability of PPEs. The Chief Minister added that it would be grateful if Gambhir helped the government get PPEs from somewhere immediately. The same day, Gambhir said had 1,000 ready and asked Kejriwal where to deliver them. But there was no reply from the Chief Minister.

After delivering the kits, Gambhir asked Kejriwal to fulfil the promises he had made to the people of Delhi. As of April 10, Delhi has 898 confirmed cases of COVID-19, out of which 25 had been cured and 13 had died.
