Delhi hotels to refuse accommodation to Chinese nationals

Extending its full support to the ‘boycott Chinese goods’ campaign launched by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Delhi Hotels & Restaurant Owners Association has decided not to provide accommodation to Chinese nationals in around 3,000 hotels and guest houses in the national capital.

Though the COVID-19 crisis and the subsequent nationwide lockdown have severely affected the hospitality industry in the country, the decision came as a mark of protest against the recent Chinese aggression along the Indian border that resulted in the deaths of at least 20 Indian soldiers and fatalities on the other side too.

In a letter to the CAIT, the association said it had also decided to boycott Chinese goods that had been used in hotels and restaurants in Delhi.

While most hotels in the national capital had already complied with the decision, the association would not force any establishment to agree to the plan, Indian Express quoted association president Sandeep Khandelwal as saying. He added that the association would also try to persuade five-start hotels to adhere to the decision.

Welcoming the decision, CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said it was quite evident that people from all walks of life were more willing to join its campaign.
