Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has lashed out at the Nitish Kumar government over Monday’s (October 26) Munger firing incident in Bihar in which one person was killed and at least 30 were injured during Durga Puja idol immersions.

“What was chief minister Nitish Kumar, who holds the home portfolio, doing when the firing was taking place? Who gave the orders to police to become General (Reginald) Dyer in Munger?” asked Tejashwi, comparing the incident to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by British troops in Amritsar in April 1919.

The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) leaders too reacted and called for the dismissal of the Bihar government over the incident. “We want the Prime Minister to immediately dismiss this government as there is complete failure of law and order in the state,” said the Grand Alliance leaders.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala shared a video of the violence and tweeted, “Will the BJP-JDU government thrash Durga worshippers like animals? Will the BJP-JDU government kill people for immersing Durga idol. Yes, these images are from Munger in Bihar. First, they lathi-charged the disciples and then police fired on them.”

Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP) President Chirag Paswan called for a murder case to be booked against Munger police and Superintendent of Police (SP) Lipi Singh. He slammed the Nitish government as “Talibani regime”.

“A 302 (murder) case should be registered against the Munger Police. Firing on devotees shows Nitish’s is a Talibani regime. The local SP should be suspended immediately and an FIR registered against her under Section 302 (murder),” Paswan tweeted.

“During (the) Durga puja immersion, some anti-social elements resorted to stone-pelting which left 20 policemen injured. After this someone from the crowd fired, leading to one death,” SP Lipi Singh told NDTV.
