In a serious allegation against LJP chief Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, whose party is an ally of Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), on Monday (November 2) shot a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi seeking an investigation into the death of Chirag’s father Ram Vilas Paswan.

Ram Vilas Paswan died on October 8 after a prolonged illness.

Manjhi, in his letter, has raised questions on the alleged happy demeanour of Chirag during a video shoot just a day after his father’s funeral.

“The nation is in shock due to Ram Vilas Paswan’s death but LJP chief Chirag Paswan was seen smiling during shooting videos the day after the last rites. He was talking about the shooting, due to which several questions are being raised by some section of Ram Vilas’s admirers and relatives,” ANI quoted Majhi’s letter as saying.

In the two-minute video clip, Chirag is seen taking multiple takes to record his message. The Opposition had alleged that he was not “sad enough” while talking about his father.

The Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief asked on whose direction was the hospital where senior Paswan was admitted asked not to release medical bulletins and why only three people were allowed to meet him.

Fuming over the allegations, Chirag shot back asking why Manjhi himself didn’t visit Ram Vilas when he was hospitalised.

“Why didn’t he (Jitan) show so much concern about him (Ram Vilas) when he was hospitalised? Everyone is playing politics over a dead person now, why no one bothered to visit him when he was alive?” ANI quoted Chirag as saying.

“I have told Manjhi-Ji about my father’s serious condition over phone, yet he never came to see my ailing father,” he added.

Stating that he doesn’t need to prove his grief for his father, Chirag said people questioning him over his father’s death have stooped low and “should be ashamed of themselves.”
