₹50 lakh insurance cover for journalists, home guards in Assam

Journalists, home guards, and casual employees in Assam will get a COVID life insurance cover of ₹50 lakh each, the state government has announced.

The Assam Cabinet on Thursday (August 27) approved the insurance policy which guarantees compensation of ₹50 lakh in case any personnel from the above-mentioned categories succumb to coronavirus disease.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that journalists are braving their lives to give adequate coverage to COVID-19 related issues and generating awareness among people across the state. “We recognize their selfless endeavour and announce this insurance coverage. I request journalists to continue this noble venture in the days to come for the good of the society,” Sonowal added.

Several journalist associations have welcomed the state government’s decision.
