West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday (November 17) alleged that many Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders had made a lot of “illegal” money. “No one will be spared” by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and they “will spend rest of their lives in prison”, he said.

“The ED will trace their illegal money and assets and the TMC leaders will be in jail for the  rest of their lives,” the BJP leader said while addressing a programme in Kolkata.

Reacting to Ghosh’s comment, senior TMC MP Sougata Roy said, “Such statements only prove how the BJP uses central agencies like ED and CBI to pursue political goals.”

“The ED and the CBI have been looking after several cases in Bengal for the last so many years. But till date, nothing has happened. Dilip Ghosh should stop making such laughable comments to energise party cadres,” he said.

Ghosh, referring to the Assembly polls due in April-May next year, said that everyone will be able to exercise his/her vote freely as central paramilitary forces will ensure free and fair election.

“I want to assure all that the central government is with you. The central forces will ensure free and fair Assembly election in the state. People will be able to exercise their democratic right without any fear. State police personnel will not be allowed near the polling booths,” Ghosh said.

Alleging that a section of TMC workers are still “attacking and terrorising” BJP workers and the common man, he said, the “days of the TMC government are numbered”.

In the recent past, BJP leaders have been attacking the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in Bengal.

On Monday, newly-appointed BJP co-incharge for Bengal Amit Malviya said the saffron party will “re-establish” the glory of the state.

“I am sure together we will re-establish the glory. It can happen only if Pishi’s (CM) government steeped in corruption, appeasement and lawlessness is routed,” Malviya, who is also the BJP’s IT cell chief, said in a tweet. He had arrived in Kolkata to a rousing welcome.

On November 5, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said there is massive public anger against the TMC government and its “death knell” had been sounded. Also, he urged the people to give the party a chance to form the next government to fulfil the dream of “Sonar Bangla” (golden Bengal).

“I can sense the massive public anger against the Mamata Banerjee government. On the other side, I can sense hope among the people that a change can be ushered in the state only under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Shah had said.

“From the kind of attack and atrocities that are being perpetrated on BJP workers, I can sense that the death knell of the Mamata Banerjee government has been sounded,” he added.
