Ashamed I was in TMC for 21 years: Suvendu Adhikari

Suvendu Adhikari, who recently left the Trinamool Congress to join the BJP in West Bengal, on Saturday (December 26) said he was ashamed of being associated with the Mamata Banerjee-led party for 21 years.

“The political party I had been associated with earlier has no discipline now. It has turned into a company from a party. I am ashamed of having associated with the party for 21 years,” he said while speaking to BJP workers on Saturday.

Calling the BJP a “nationalist, pluralist, disciplined and patriotic party,” Adhikari said Bengal at present needs the guidance of such a party under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to flourish.

“Only the combination of BJP government at the Centre and that in Bengal can lead the state towards economic development and tackle the issue of unemployment,” he was quoted as saying.

“BJP is the largest political party in the world. Now, I am a member of this nationalist, pluralist, disciplined and patriotic party. Our objective would be to make the party win the forthcoming Assembly elections and create the ‘Sonar Bangla’,” he added.

Adhikari who recently quit from the Mamata Banerjee cabinet and then as a member of the TMC, has accused the party of depriving 73 lakh farmers of the benefits of the Centre’s PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme and launching attacks at BJP workers, leading to the death of almost 135 of them.
