Odisha tops ranking for NFSA implementation through ration shops

Odisha has topped the state ranking for the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) through ration shops. Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, occupy the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively, reveal the rankings released by the Centre.

The ‘State Ranking Index for NFSA 2022′, was released by Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal during a conference on Food and Nutrition Security in India, held in New Delhi on July 5, 2022. The conference was attended by food ministers from all states.

Odisha stands at the first position with a score of 0.836, as per the rankings. Uttar Pradesh stands second with a score of 0.797 and Andhra Pradesh, third with a total score of 0.794. The subsequent places are held by Gujarat, Dadar & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Chhattisgarh and Goa stand at the bottom of the state ranking.

Special category states

Tripura has obtained the first rank among the special category states, which includes the north-eastern states, Himalayan states, and the island states. Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim have bagged the second and third positions, respectively. The special category states, performed even better than the general states, irrespective of the logistical limitations in the areas, revealed the report.

According to a Mint report, Goyal said that India is now 100 per cent connected under the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC). He added that 45 crore transactions have taken place so far providing the beneficiaries with the freedom to collect ration from any state or UT in the country.
