It’s been two years since the cricket fans in IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali roared “Rohit! Rohit!” but the chant is still fresh and ringing in our ears.

India’s hitman Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 208-run innings in 153 balls created history when he became the first cricketer to register three double hundreds in One-Day Internationals.

The Mumbai batsman scored his first 100 off 115 balls after which he blasted his next century off just 36 balls against Sri Lanka which fired the team to a massive 392 for four in a must-win game on December 13, 2017.

Interestingly, this was Sharma’s second double-century against Sri Lanka after he ticked off another world record on his name of scoring 264 at Kolkata in 2014. His first 200 in ODIs came in a clash against Australia in Bengaluru in 2013.

The astounding 208-run knock which was filled with 13 fours and 12 sixes, also made it Rohit’s first score of 100-plus as an ODI captain and his 16th century overall.

The day marks a rampage of records broken in Mohali as India managed to set the highest total at this ground, surpassing 351 for five by South Africa against the Netherlands in 2011.

In fact, Sharma also broke Virat Kohli’s 154-run record of the highest individual score in Mohali.

The vice-captain of the Indian squad, who is about to start his campaign against West Indies in the three-match ODI series starting in Chennai on Sunday (December 15), now has 8686 ODI runs, 2633 runs in the shortest format and has recorded 2141 runs in Tests.

Coincidentally, this day happens to be Sharma’s fourth wedding anniversary, to celebrate which he took to Twitter and wrote: “Can’t imagine my life moving forward without you. Nothing can be better than this. I love you @ritssajdeh.”
