Stuart Broad bids adieu to Yuvraj, reminds fans of his six sixes

England bowler Stuart Broad bid adieu to his biggest nemesis Yuvraj Singh on Instagram, after the Indian World Cup-winning cricketer announced his retirement from all formats of the game on Monday (June 10).

Broad posted a picture along with Yuvi and wrote: “Enjoy retirement Legend @yuvisofficial”.

A dream of cricket fanatics to relive will always be Yuvraj’s six over boundaries in an over of Broad in the inaugural ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2007. Broad was smashed for six sixes in the 19th over of India’s innings. Yuvraj scored his 50 of just 12 balls, which is still the fastest half century by a batsman in the T20 format.

In the match, Yuvi came out to bat when Robin Uthappa departed and he made India comeback and post 218 runs on the board. India went on to win the match by 18 runs.

Yuvraj’s career that spanned over 304 one-day internationals, 58 Twenty20s and 40 test matches has imprinted its place in the history of Indian cricket as effortless and world-class batting, fierce bowling and lightning fast fielding.

Tremendous pressure and big events brought out the best in him. Be it his international cricket debut in 2000 ICC Champions Trophy, the batting at the inaugural 2007 World Twenty20 or the all-round performance at 2011 World Cup, all gave fans goose bumps.

“After 25 years in and around the 22 yards and almost 17 years of international cricket on and off, I have decided to move on. This game taught me how to fight, how to fall, to dust off, to get up again and move forward,” said an emotional Yuvraj while making the announcement.

However, he has confirmed that he will be participating in other foreign ICC events once he gets an approval.
