Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retained the top two positions in the ICC men’s ODI batting rankings, according to a International Cricket Council (ICC) release. The skipper bagged the top spot while Sharma retained the second despite missing the recently concluded 50-over series against Australia.

The batsmen shined even though the team conceded a 2-1 defeat to the Australians, with Kohli scoring two half centuries. While Kohli scored 870 ratings points, Rohit got 842. At second and third positions were Pakistan’s Babar Azam (837 points) and New Zealand’s Ross Taylor (818) respectively.

“Despite missing the ODI series owing to a hamstring injury, his (Kohli’s) compatriot Rohit Sharma remains at number two, five points ahead of Babar Azam who is on third,” said the ICC in a release on Thursday.

From the Australian camp, limited-over captain Aaron Finch was the only new entry to the list. He entered the fifth position being the leading run scorer in the three-match series with 249 runs which helped him post his career-best 791 points. Finch’s career-best ranking was at number 4 during last year’s ODI World Cup. David Warner finished seventh with 773 rating points.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who posted a terrific 210 runs in the series, also entered the top 50 ODI batsmen’s ranking, at number 49 with 553 points.

Meanwhile, on the bowling charts, Jusprit Bumrah slipped a place to end at number 3. At 700 points, he stands only a point behind Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman. New Zealand’s Trent Boult is at the top with 722 rating points.

In a series dominated by batsmen, Adam Zampa (of Australia) made the big impact with the ball, enabling him an entry in the top 20 ODI bowlers for the very first time, said ICC. His seven wickets at 23 earned him rank 14 on the bowling charts, with career-best 623 points. Josh Hazlewood took six wickets and moved up a place to rank 6.
