Ganguly brought players like Zaheer, Yuvraj and Harbhajan: Wasim Jaffer

Naming BCCI president Sourav Ganguly as the favourite captain he had played under, former opener Wasim Jaffer said it was the former Indian skipper who had brought players like Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh to the team and made Virender Sehwag the opening batsman.

In an interview with CricTracker, Jaffar said Ganguly had the temperament, and gave players a longer rope. India-South Africa series in February 2000, which also happened to be debut series of Jaffer, was marred by a match-fixing scandal. Later, Ganguly took over as captain and rebuilt the team.

Also, Jaffer, who was recently appointed as head coach for Uttarakhand team, chose current Indian skipper Virat Kohli as the best white-ball (ODI) cricketer over Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma. However, Jaffar said he had gone to watch Tendulkar play when he was around 13-14 years.

He added that Sehwag was his favourite batting partner in Test cricket when Jaffer was asked to choose between Sehwag and Tendulkar. Jaffer has played 31 Tests and 2 ODIs for the Indian team. He had played under the captaincies of Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
