In a big blow to four-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK), paceman Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2022.
Chahar, who was bought back by CSK for Rs 14 crore at the players’ auction, did not play a single game in this edition of the IPL. He was nursing a back injury. The right-arm bowler had taken 14 wickets in last year’s IPL which CSK won. Chahar has been a part of the CSK side since 2018 and has picked up 58 wickets across the four seasons.

The confirmation of the news came through an IPL media advisory issued on Friday (April 15).
CSK has been struggling in the ongoing league, winning just one of its five games so far. The Ravindra Jadeja-led side endured four straight losses at the start of the tournament and got its first points after winning against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
“We are disappointed because we don’t have one of our main bowlers but injuries are part and parcel of the game. We wish Deepak Chahar a very speedy recovery,” CSK CEO K.S Viswanathan said.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has signed fast bowler Harshit Rana as a replacement for pacer Rasikh Salam for the rest of the IPL season. Salam, who played two games for KKR this season, has been ruled out owing to a lower back injury and will take no further part in the tournament.
His replacement, Rana, from Delhi will join KKR at his base price of Rs 20 lakh.
