Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin entered the pantheon of Indian bowling greats as he claimed his 400 scalp on Thursday during the third Test match between India and England.
Ashwin achieved the feat in only his 77th Test, becoming the fastest Indian to reach the milestone as he pipped spin great Anil Kumble, who claimed his 400th wicket in 85th Test.
Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh are the other two Indians in the prestigious club.
The Indian champion is the second fastest bowler to 400 scalps, behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan.

Former cricketers congratulated the off-spinner on Twitter. Sachin Tendulkar wrote: “Terrific consistency!Well done, keep it up @ashwinravi99. Joy to watch you bowl. #INDvENG”
Former England captain Michael Vaughan hailed Ashwin and tweeted: “Great cricketer @ashwinravi99 !! #400.”
Batsman VVS Laxman also congratulated Ashwin: “Magnificent milestone for the spin wizard @ashwinravi99 Congratulations Ash on 400 Test Wickets. Keep ‘em coming. #INDvENG.”
