'Zoom app not safe': Govt issues guidelines for video-conferencing

The ministry of home affairs on Thursday said the Zoom meeting app is not a safe platform for video conference, and also issued a set of set of guidelines for those who want to use it for private purpose.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday (April 16) said the Zoom meeting app is not a safe platform for video conference and also issued a set of guidelines for those using it for private purposes.

The government said the guidelines were intended to help prevent malicious activity by ‘unauthorised participants.’ The guidelines list out steps to ensure the use of passwords and access grants, reported NDTV. It also asked users to prevent unauthorized entry in the conference room.

The ministry had earlier issued a statement in this regard. It said the Zoom meeting app was not a safe platform for video conferencing. The country’s cybersecurity agency, Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-IN) had also pointed to the Zoom app’s cyber vulnerability.

The Zoom app is being used by thousands of professionals working from home in the wake of the lockdown imposed due to COVID-19 outbreak.
