There is no stopping the meme-makers of the country. Even as news trickled in of the encounter killing of history-sheeter Vikas Dubey, after a dramatic week-long chase, meme-makers were putting together ‘various angles’ of the story.

Inventive posts like ‘how does a gangster look like?’ took over the internet after the July 3 ambush which killed eight policemen in Kanpur, which was allegedly materminded by Vikas Dubey. Meme-creators compared pictures of the ‘real’ gangster with several ‘reel’ gangsters. They shared a photo of Vivek Oberoi from ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ and also Don Corleone from ‘Godfather’ in a collage alongside Vikas Dubey. The captions funnily cited the expectations vs reality of gangster among the masses.

On ‘encounter’ day, the meme-makers turned towards politicians and the Uttar Pradesh police. The memes portrayed how politicians with ‘connections’ to Dubey were relieved after news of the encounter.

Kaleen Bhaiyya, a famous character played by Pankaj Tripathi in series named ‘Mirzapur’ and his dialogue, “Hum karte hai prabandh, aap chinta matt kijiye” (we will do the needful, you don’t worry) was one of the most popular meme templates used by netizens.

Some internet users claimed that they ‘predicted’ the encounter even before it actually happened. Many posted their own theories of how Dubey would try to run away and be killed by the cops. They went into self-praise mode as they had successfully managed to predict the ‘future’ of Dubey.

Memes saying this encounter is going to be the next Netflix/Amazon series was also trending. People even went to the extent of predicting the cast for the series.
