High-speed wind at fault for water accumulation in Statue of Unity?

Update: 2019-06-29 12:57 GMT

Tourists at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Narmada district had to wade through a pool of puddle as water leaked through cracks of the monument’s viewing gallery.

Videos circulating on the social media showed water dripping from the roof of the gallery at the world’s tallest Statue of Unity on Saturday (June 29). Opened last October, the statue was built at a cost of ₹3,000 crore.

However, officials rejected reports of leakage and blamed high-velocity winds for blowing rainwater inside the gallery.

“The rainwater has been blown by high-velocity winds inside the viewing gallery It’s by design that it has to be kept open for a better view which tourists can enjoy Water accumulation is being promptly tackled by the maintenance team,” the statue’s official Twitter handle said.
